AndroGel® Testosterone Lawsuit
AndroGel® Heart Attack Lawyer
Over the past decade, the use of prescription testosterone by men has skyrocketed. From 2001 to 2011, the number of men taking testosterone therapy nearly quadrupled, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). Today, roughly 4% of men in their 60s use testosterone. Among the many products available – including topical gels, injections, and transdermal patches – AndroGel® has dominated the market.

Heavily advertised as a treatment for low testosterone, AndroGel is marketed by AbbVie Inc. and is often used to treat hypogonadism, a condition resulting in a lack of testosterone production. Just as with other testosterone products available on the market, however, AndroGel is also commonly used to treat low libido, low energy, depression, and other issues experienced by middle aged men – even if they do not necessarily have low testosterone or an underlying medical condition.
Testosterone & Heart Attack Risks
A number of recent studies have associated testosterone therapy with increased risks of stroke, heart attack, and death.
- One study published in PLOS One found that heart attack risks doubled in men over the age of 65 taking testosterone and nearly tripled in men with known heart disease.
- A November, 2013 study published in JAMA found a 30% increased risk of stroke, heart attack, and death.
In response to these studies and associated risks, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) recently issued a safety announcement that they would be evaluating risks of stroke, heart attack, and death in men using FDA-approved testosterone products, including AndroGel. The safety announcement also stated that
only men with verifiably low testosterone and an associated medical condition should take testosterone therapy.
